USPAACC’s newest program, the CPO Council Meeting, was a two-hour consultative discussion held among Chief Procurement Officers of Fortune 1000 corporations held on May 30 during CelebrAsian Procurement & Business Conference. The goal of the CPO Council is to help CPOs from various industries assess the current procurement landscape, gain insight into international business trends and overall outlook, and make informed decisions about supply chain management to help their respective organizations.
Among the topics raised were: The positive and negative repercussions of business trends and outlook on U.S. and global supply chain management; How President Trump’s policies will affect U.S. economic growth; Do business forecasts reveal trepidations about shortages in raw materials, commodities, rare minerals, and components that could adversely impact the flow of goods and services?; How new and viable approaches help identify and manage sources of vendor risks and mitigate their effects; and other pressing issues brought to the table by the CPOs.
The meeting included speakers from the Heritage Foundation (Stephen Moore a former campaign advisor), Dan Ikenson of Cato Institute (someone who had a contrarian view), and John Walsh, a supply chain management expert. They shared different perspectives on President Trump’s current trade policies.
